As I am writing the third book in the Rye Braden series, I can sense the change from the adolescence of the series to a multi-layered foundation of characters. Whether intentional or not, the stories are growing in depth and stature, especially Silence Calling which is touching on some exciting yet close to home situations.
In this book, Rye at times has taken a back seat to allow other characters to develop and tell their stories. Being a quarter of the way through the third book, it may be time to bring Rye back into the current storyline.
Silence Calling has allowed me to push the boundaries of my writing and together with the first two books has taught me much about the fundamentals of character building, scenario description and how to describe the mood of the setting.
One of the main characters is Jessica Maynard who is a virologist for the United Continents. She is a strong-willed and intelligent woman who is currently taking up most of the pages so far! It’s good because females in the last two books never really took the lead, so it’s nice to see Jessica standing out. I am still wondering whether she will be anything more to Rye than just a main character?!
Due to the genre of the books, we have another alpha male who is a member of the Commando Elite. Major Danning is an experienced soldier and leader and his character is starting to develop nicely. I won’t spoil too much about the new characters as you will just need to read the book when it is released. All I can say is that each new character brings something great to the book and it is exciting to see them develop as I write.
It is difficult to detach myself from the current book although I see this as a good problem. At the very least, it allows me to keep to my publishing deadlines for Spring 2023.
I have a feeling that Rye Braden will be with me for some time as there are so many adventures and missions for him to be dragged into!
